Five or more GCSEs Grade 9-4/A*-C or equivalent, including English.
Grade 6 in Maths
This course follows the Edexcel syllabus. At AS level you shall undertake a 2 hour paper based on the Pure mathematics, and a 1.25 hour paper covering the applied mathematics. For the A level you shall sit three 2 hour papers, 2 papers are based on the pure content, the first specifically retesting the AS knowledge, but with questions asked to explore the understanding and reasoning that has developed through continuing your study. The second Pure paper shall test the knowledge learnt in year 13, and the third paper shall cover all the applied content learnt over the 2 year course. Exams will be taken in June.
Maths qualifications are highly valued by higher education institutions and are essential for the further study of many science, engineering and economics courses.
Mathematics A-level would be applicable for the following:
Courses/careers in Mathematics, Engineering and most areas of Physics (Further Mathematics is often helpful and often required, for some of these courses).
Computing, Accountancy, Economics, Business, Banking, Air Traffic Control, Retail Management, Architecture, Surveying, Cartography, Psychology and, of course, Teaching to name but a few.
An A level in maths is a valuable qualification that is always in demand in both the employment markets and university. The ability to understand logical arguments and numerical information make an A level mathematician very much sought after.

The course looks at a range of topics including core and applied mathematics. You will study pure and applied mathematics in a ratio of 2:1. Pure maths covers algebra, trigonometry, geometry and calculus. The applied maths covers statistics and mechanics.
