This course follows the Edexcel syllabus. In year 12 two 100 minute examinations shall be sat, one covering the Core Pure content and the other covering the additional modules, four 90 minute exams are sat in year 13, 2 covering the Core pure content and one for each of the additional modules. Exams are taken in June.
Any student planning to take a mathematics-rich degree (this covers a very wide range of academic areas - Engineering, Sciences, Computing, Finance/Economics, etc., as well as Mathematics itself) will benefit enormously from taking Further Mathematics, at least to AS level.
Students who are not planning to study for mathematics-rich degrees but who are keen on Mathematics will find Further Mathematics a very enjoyable course and having a Further Mathematics qualification identifies students as having excellent analytical skills, whatever area they plan to study or work within.

Students who are especially keen on mathematics will really enjoy studying Further Mathematics. It is a challenging qualification, which both extends and deepens students' knowledge and understanding beyond the standard AS level.
The department has an outstanding track record with student progress in A level Further Mathematics at Forge Valley previously in the top 10% in the country.
AS Further Mathematics is designed to be learnt alongside AS Mathematics in year 12. You will study Core Pure Maths which covers proof, complex numbers, matrix algebra and extensions of content covered in AS mathematics. You will also study two additional modules of pure, statistics, mechanics or decision mathematics. At A level you shall build upon the content learnt in the first year and develop the skills introduced. By studying Further Maths you will cover a broader range of applied topics.
